Moving on…literally

So, the wine is gone (mostly) and the beer calendar is done. I’m trying to decide what to write about next.

My friend suggested I focus on our upcoming move. 50 boxes of …. oh so much stuff.

We are not going far. A few streets over. As if that makes it better.

Our last move was close like this. We kept meaning to rent a truck but instead moved everything in the back of our mini van. It was a freaking nightmare.
This time we’ve promised ourselves to use movers. The only problem with this plan is that it involves a plan. I hate plans.

I’m the opposite of a type A personality. I’m not even a letter. I’m probably a type orange. I hate planning. I hate committing to things. How am I going to know if I’ll be ready to move on a certain date?

I’ll keep you posted on this move. I just know I’m not moving each sock over individually like we did last time.

Day 24

This is where I’d show you a picture of Day 24’s beer.

Notice it is blank.

We went to our good friends’ place last night for a delicious pre-Christmas dinner. Before we left, Mike was talking about which beer he would bring and I was half listening. Like normal. I heard something about bringing two beers as he wouldn’t have time to drink it on Christmas Eve. I nodded and went on thinking about whatever I was thinking about (eating chips? Fitting into my jeans? Starting wrapping?).

We get to our friends house. They also have the beer advent calendar. Mike casually drops that one of the beers are from the 24th. From the future! And he casually pops it open.

It was an Upstreet pumpkin ale. I didn’t get a picture as I completely don’t approve of opening an advent calendar before it’s time.

So our advent calendar is done. A day before it should have been.

It was a fun thing to do. We will probably try it again next year. I may hide it and give him each day as it happens to avoid stealing from the future.

Day 17

Here’s today’s. Not going to lie. Not a favourite. Too medicinal tasting.

Mike told me I could dig through the days that are left for something else I wanted. It is like he doesn’t know me at all. Good god. I can’t even flip a calendar to write things in until after the first of the month.

Day 16

Here’s what we tried tonight. I traveled this week to Wisconsin so I have some catching up to do.

Mike really likes this one. “Very IPAish”

I flew from Madison to Boston last night trying to stay ahead of a big winter storm. Then home this morning (which ended up being the afternoon as we got diverted when a snow squall blew through and closed the airport for just long enough for us not to be able to land). All things considered, pretty good for the week before Christmas.

Day 6 and Day 7

Why is December going so quickly? Maybe because I have exactly nothing done for the holidays?

So I missed reporting on day 6 and 7 (but not on drinking them). Here they are:

I am not sure of the order. I was deeply engrossed in trying to properly apply ssl certificates in a complicated server environment so I had both served to me at my desk both nights.

I enjoyed both but really liked the Upstreet one.

Mike says we had something by Nine Locks before. I don’t think so but it’s a good thing I have a record to look back on.

I’m also enjoying the labels on these beers. Clever hipsters.

Editing to add that Mike was right (as usual) – we had an extra special bitter from Nine Locks. I hate when he’s right. Let’s not tell him.

Day 8

Two posts in one day? Maybe that’s why December is going so quickly!

I like this one a lot. I didn’t love the smell  at first but it’s quite a nice lightish beer.

I’m going to sit here sipping and pretend I didn’t invite friends over for dinner last minute (is there any other way I plan things?) and now I’m responsible for feeding everyone.

Day 5

The Darkness by Boxing Rock from Shelburn, NS

This is one of mike’s fav breweries. He drinks their Hunky Dory all the time (Or Hunky Dorkie as it’s known in our house).

I don’t love dark beer but after a day of “homeschooling” after the province closed the schools “indefinitely” (back on tomorrow) I said yes when he offered me a drink. It was actually quite good. I had a tiny amount but man was it filling.

(Don’t worry, I’m not going to waste away. I still ate my whole burger).

Day 4

Hoppy Bouy – Garrison brewing, Halifax, NS

It’s so hoppy.

Me: do you like it?

M: yes. It’s super hoppy. I’m glad I’m only having one. I have to save room for my wine.

This is from the 50. It’s one of our rare doubles. Hope it’s good.

M’s making a turkey dinner tonight. Yum.
